Amey Victoria Adkins was born and raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of southwest Virginia. She grew up with a love for singing, writing and living in the countryside. Amey went on her first plane when she was 19 years old, a trip that carried her into the townships of South Africa. Her life pursuits were forever changed when faced with the stark reality of poverty in the world. After completing degrees in Religious Studies and African/African-American Studies at the University of Virginia, she began a path of social work and outreach with homeless populations. She graduated from Duke Divinity School with her M.Div where she met Chris and Phileena Heuertz, who invited her to travel with them to the Asia fields and complete a summer internship in Kolkata, India. She has continued to be a part of the Word Made Flesh community since then in an extended capacity, and is excited to join the community officially in her role as Editor of The Cry. Amey is currently earning her PhD at Duke University in Religion (Christian Theological Studies), working on a dissertation offering a theological account of the global sex trade. She continues service as both a confirmed Episcopalian and a licensed Baptist minister.
