Beth is a country girl from the heart of Indiana. She grew up learning about the love of Jesus from a dynamic and close-knit family. When Beth was 5, missionaries serving in Kenya spoke at her church. As a result, she told her parents she wanted to be a missionary in Africa, China, Israel, Florida and Texas. For a 5-year-old these were great aspirations, but God has used this willing heart to lead and direct her path ever since. In further pursuit of this call, she attended Huntington College and received a degree in Cross-Cultural Ministry. During her time at Huntington, Beth studied abroad in Africa. These four months were her first encounters with AIDS, children living on the streets and women who prostitute. It was here she realized that God saw a need, made her and was developing a vision that involved the poor. In 2004, during her senior year, Beth worked in New York City with Indian and Middle Eastern women. After this experience, she decided to take the next step and apply with WMF for a Servant Team to Kolkata in pursuit of God's call to go and love the poor. As a result of the Servant Team and an internship with WMF, Beth has experienced the beauty of community and the brokenness and hope that flow from serving and knowing her friends in the red-light district. In January 2010 Beth accepted the role of Kolkata Field Director and is honored to learn and grow beside her community in this new position. She also serves as Brothel Outreach Coordinator and continues to be amazed and broken by the transformation and new life she sees in the four walls of Sari Bari and the power of presence speaking hope into the red light allies of Kolkata!
