Dan was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Mich. with his three siblings, by his parents who were faithful members of their local church. Between his parents and his church he was taught about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and came to believe that it is only through the finished work of Christ on the cross that we can be saved from the penalty of sin. Because of his faith Dan was supernaturally transformed from a God damned fool to a God redeemed fool.
Dan's church faithfully discipled him in the foolishness of the gospel through local service projects, instruction in the word and mission trips. After he served on a mission trip to an orphanage in Mozambique Dan believed that God was directing him towards overseas ministry.
In faith, he began a several year long process of discerning the specifics of God calling. This process was guided and encouraged by the promises of Isaiah 42:16.
In September 2007 Dan arrived in Sierra Leone where he believed God had lead him. He volunteered with several different missionaries and wrestled with poverty, injustice and loss. After several months of volunteering with WMF Sierra Leone, Dan was offered and internship. Upon completing his internship Dan returned to the U.S and joined WMF. Dan is enjoying how WMF is contributing to his understanding of the foolishness of the gospel and looks forward to returning to Sierra Leone to live it out there.
