David Smith was raised in the small town of Crestview, Florida by Christian parents. In the spring of 1999, David graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Architecture. He worked at a small architecture firm for four years.
In the summer of 1994, David went on a two-week mission trip to Montero, Bolivia where his heart was first broken for the poor. In 2003 David heard of Word Made Flesh from a friend, Kristin Keen (WMF India Field Staff). It was during his journey along the Appalachian Trail that he decided to go on a Servant Team. In the spring of 2004 David went to Lima, Peru. During his four months in Lima, Jesus opened his eyes to the suffering of the street kids. David is on the Field Staff in Lima.
