Faye was born in Taiwan, and she and her family immigrated to Wisconsin when she was six. While she attended church growing up, she did not grow up in a strong Christian family. She was, however, surrounded by strong family values and lots of people that loved and cared for her. Her aunts, uncles and grandparents lived nearby, and she saw them often.

She first realized that she wanted to follow Jesus through the examples of the leaders in her youth group. Her faith further deepened when she was mentored by pastors and InterVarsity leaders when she attended the University of Wisconsin. Through their influence and her community of friends, she knew she had to spend time in a third world country to understand more fully the realities of this world and God's heart for his people. Upon graduating with a degree in marketing, that knowledge and desire led her to Washington DC where she interned for the International Justice Mission. God continued to bring excellent men and women of God through the Kairos community that revealed God's heart for his people that are oppressed. She also started to work with Kairos and Outreach at The Falls Church Episcopal Church. It was there that she was introduced to Word Made Flesh through one of its staff. Since then she has participated in a Servant Team to India and a discovery team to Sierra Leone. She knew that she was forever changed and that her life is one that needs to bring about redemption and regeneration to this hurting world. She experience deep joys and pains as she lived amongst the poor, and she wants to share what she has learned with others, especially the western church. That is why she feels like she is called to live and work in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
