Gita was born in a small village outside of Kolkata named Chorun. She currently stays at the Sari Bari prevention unit in Canning, where she serves as the New Projects Manager. Gita has worked very hard to support her family and has often been the sole breadwinner for her mom and younger sister.
Gita first learned about Jesus in 2005. She began attending a Bible study on Friday afternoons at a local vocational training unit and there grew in her faith. During this time she also started attending the local Bengali church in her area called Jibon Joyti Fellowship, where she started taking baptism classes and was baptized in November 2005. Her sister has become a Christian as well, and both are praying that their mom would come to know Jesus.
Gita currently works as Sari Bari’s New Projects Manager, and is managing the new SB prevention unit in Canning. She says in the future she would like to continue doing ministry, and loves working at Sari Bari. She wants to see more women come to work for Sari Bari so they can have freedom from the sex trade.
Gita is engaged to be married in November and is excited about this new season of her life!!!
