Heather grew up in Marysville, a classic picture of small-town America on the east side of Michigan. She first gave her life to Christ as an act of personal faith at a Vacation Bible School she attended with a neighbor. God was faithful in the years that followed to provide a church and a circle of friends, with in which her passion and understanding of the gospel could mature. She attended Taylor University in Indiana, and during her time there, Heather's heart was first opened to the poor through two short-term mission trips to Haiti.
Heather moved west to Seattle following graduation to pursue further education in counseling at Mars Hill Graduate School where she began to learn about the traumatic realities of sexual abuse and exploitation. Before deciding to join a WMF Servant Team to Bolivia in the fall of 2003, she spent a year counseling women who had suffered sexual abuse as children. It was in Bolivia that God affirmed in her a long-term vision for exploited women and children. Heather serves in El Alto, Bolivia, in a field staff position.
Wes and Heather were married September 23, 2006.
