Finding God in the humble beginnings of a local youth ministry led by incredible volunteers, Jake began a lifelong journey of growth. After graduating high school he headed off to York, NE to attend York College, an evangelical liberal arts college. While at York he went on several short term mission trips to Mexico, Venezuela and China, partnering with local churches in word and deed ministry.
In December of 2009 Jake graduated with a BA in Biblical Studies, and then less than a month later married his best friend Elise. The new Owens family headed to Cedar Rapids, IA where Jake would serve as the Youth Education Minister at a small church for two years.
Jake currently serves at WMF as the Coordinator of Short Term Programs, a role that reflects his passion to connect individuals, churches, and communities to friends in the majority world. Jake is a self-professed nerd, fond of reading about history, listening to loud alternative rock, and playing video games.
