Kiran was born in Kolkata but soon moved to North India, where she spent her childhood.
Her mother was a Christian, and her father a Hindu. Kiran moved back to Kolkata over 20 years ago when she was married. Kiran was not a Christian until 1992, when she started attending New Life Fellowship, where she made her commitment to the Lord and was baptized soon after. It was also at this time that she introduced her two daughters to the Lord; both of them now follow Jesus.
After she became a Christian, Kiran became active in Bible study and learned about God's love for His people. At this point, Jesus gave her a vision to one day work with broken girls in their teens - she just didn't know the context of her call. Six or seven years ago, Kiran read an article in a local magazine about the girls who are forced into the sex trade, and her heart broke for them. It wasn't until May of 2005 that she was able to respond to the call that God placed on her heart. A member of her church asked her if she would like to serve with an organization called WMF that works with women and children in Kolkata's red-light areas. God is doing amazing work through Kiran in the red-light areas of Kolkata. Her life is an example of what it means to trust God with your life, your reputation and your dreams. Kiran is WMF's first Indian worker to join Kolkata's community. She is a wonderful blessing from the Lord. In a city where .025 percent of the population is Christian, God brought not only a woman who loves Him but also loves the women of Kolkata's red-light areas.
