Liz is a proud Michigander from the small towns of Hanover and Horton. As a kid she did 4-H for one year until she had to send her lamb (Fisher) to the slaughter and considers that the low point (and end of) her farming career. Still she went on to study Sustainable Business at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is a student of lots of things including modern dance, environmental issues and justice, her friends and family, the Catholic faith, and the Word Made Flesh folks. Having grown up reading The Cry she went on a Servant Team in 2005 to India, Nepal, and did the Tsunami Relief Project in Sri Lanka. Word Made Flesh has given her lots of things including a deeper spirituality, a framework for better understanding poverty, the opportunity to serve as Director of Administration, and a loving community. She's getting married in September to her best friend, Calvin Smothers.
