Although Merilee currently lives in Michigan with her sister’s family, her heart is all over the map. A bit of it is in West Virginia, where Merilee served for 6 years after college in a community development organization, leading and learning from at-risk teens through an entrepreneurship program she led. And another part of her heart is in Kolkata, where a close friend of hers from college lives and works as part of WMF’s field staff.
A visit to see her friend’s world and meet the ladies and staff of Sari Bari in 2009, and again this past spring has clearly left its mark on Merilee. This summer, Merilee began her new role as Sari Bari’s U.S. Distributor, sending out products from the U.S. and linking people across the globe to the transformative work of Sari Bari. The smiles of the ladies of Sari Bari still float through her mind with each purse and blanket she sends.
