Rachel was born in Newburyport, MA, and raised in a loving, Christian home. Her heart was first stirred towards missions by her grandfather and other relatives who have spent their lives in Eastern Asia as missionaries. A high school trip led Rachel to Romania for six weeks in 1996.
During her junior year at Gordon College, the doors were opened to return to Romania with WMF on a Servant Team. This time of intense exposure and discipleship in community among the poor opened her heart in a new way to God's call to care for the widow, the orphan and the fatherless. In May 2002, Rachel graduated from Gordon College and moved to Galati, Romania, where she served as Servant Team Coordinator, was active in leading times of worship for the community, and tutored and mentored youth at the Community Center and on the streets.
After several visits to the nearby Republic of Moldova, Rachel was led to join the team committed to forming a new WMF community in the capital city of this small former Soviet Union country. In January 2010, this team of five began their life together, reaching out to institutionalized children at one of the country's largest orphanages.
