Silas grew up in Kenya, East Africa, where his parents served as missionaries. From an early age, he has known the call of God on his life. Silas has traveled to several countries including Ethiopia, Tanzania, Jamaica, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and India. While in India on a Servant Team, Silas clearly heard the cry of the poor. It was there that he discovered the God he had been seeking to serve-the God of the poor. He received his bachelor of arts in Christian Ministries/Missions from Asbury College. Following his graduation, Silas joined the Word Made Flesh community as a Servant Team Coordinator in Nepal in 1997.

Silas met his wife, Kimberly, while at Asbury College. They married in the spring of 1999 following Silas' first term of service with Word Made Flesh and Kimberly's Servant Team. They went to Nepal together in the fall of 1999, and subsequently added to their family with the births of Jedidiah in January 2001, Adia in August 2002, Elijah in May 2004, and Priya in March 2006. There they served as the Nepal Field Directors and South Asia Regional Coordinators until August of 2008.

The West family now lives in Omaha, Neb. Kimberly continues in her calling to be a voice for the poor by raising children who listen carefully and respond to God's heart for the poor.

Silas now serves as the Coordinator of Community Care with an emphasis in the Emotional and Mental Well-being of the Word Made Flesh community. He brings ten years of experience to his role in the Community Care Center. Shortly, Silas will begin a master's degree in counseling, which he desires to use to bring wholeness to those who give their lives to Jesus in service among the poor.
