Silvia grew up in the warm weather of Santiago, Dominican Republic surrounded by a loving family, speaking Spanish, dancing merengue, and enjoying hot sunny days in the beach with her closest friends. She has a caring older brother, and two supportive and loving parents. In 2007 she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to attend Creighton University, and study international relations and French. Throughout her life in the DR, she started to feel compassionate towards the suffering of those who are poor. In her life at Creighton, she found great joy coordinating spring and fall break service trips, which led her to WMF. For Silvia WMF is a way of expressing her love and passion for serving others. Looking into the future Silvia would love to dedicate her life to serve and love others, especially the poor.
As the International Partnership Coordinator (IPC), Silvia will be working with a variety of groups within the larger WMF community including the WMF Continuity Community (the alumni community), the international WMF boards and executive directors, and the WMF International Director. There are several different components to her position, but she is eager to start blending and interacting with the WMF community, especially all the different people, cultures and languages that form WMF.
