Upendra was born Dec. 25, 1979, in Kolkata, India, and comes from a very large, traditional Hindu family. Upendra married Radhika in 1998, and they have two children, Megha, 11, and Dev Prabu, 4.
Upendra started to have a relationship with Jesus through his friendship with a couple from Switzerland who started a business initiative in Kolkata. Whenever Upendra went to the vocational center, he would learn about Jesus. Through the past few years, he has been able to see more and more of God's faithfulness and he thanks God for helping him through many problems.
Upendra has worked with WMF since February 2006. Working at Sari Bari gives him peace because he knows that it is God's work. He is proud of the work he does because it allows the women to gain respect. Upendra has many dreams he wants to see God bring to fruition. He prays that Sari Bari would grow and many women would find freedom, and he wishes to see the red-light areas transformed into areas of legitimate business through their work. He also has a dream of helping the women find good housing through the help of Sari Bari.
Upendra wants to become fluent in English and be able to translate for visitors as well as the other bengali staff. He also dreams of traveling to other countries and participating in visionary meetings that will benefit the women of Sari Bari. Upendra currently serves as Sari Bari Operations Manager.
