Selling your textbooks back this semester?
Why not donate them and give the proceeds to a good cause?

Word Made Flesh is a community dedicated to serving Jesus among the most vulnerable of the world’s poor. We build communities in major urban areas around the world by nurturing friendships with those who are poor. As we build

You can mail them for free by printing a mailing label after you enter your ISBN on the http://wordmadeflesh.treeoflifebooks.com website.

It would be helpful if there were some kind of link on the tree of life books website that offered general information about what kind of books are desired. Are you only interested in those hardcover behemoths that are tied to specific introductory courses, or the much broader assortment of books that are assigned reading for university courses?

I tried to enter one of the latter, and I got the message: “The ISBN you entered was incorrectly entered, please check your entry.” This is confusing, because the ISBN was definitely entered correctly. (I checked. Twice.) It makes perfect sense that you wouldn’t want to offer free shipping for books that don’t reach a specific resale value threshold, but if that is the case, say so; don’t tell me I entered a number incorrectly when I didn’t.

    Great comment.

When I entered a book’s ISBN that isn’t accepted, it said: “Sorry, this book is not in our database.” I’m not sure what the problem is for your book.

I’m also not positive the specific type of books accepted, I just know that we are looking for textbooks. I will direct you to the Tree of Life contact page, since they will be more helpful than I am. http://www.treeoflifebooks.com/pages/contact

    RB,

There is no good rule of thumb to give you on what textbooks are excepted. Yes, hard cover behemoths are accepted, but not all of them. Yes, books tied to introductory courses are accepted, but not all of them. Yes, the broader assortments of books assigned for reading for university course are accepted, but not all of them. The older the books are, the less likely they are to be accepted however, many textbooks stand the test of time and those are accepted. Custom Texts, International Editions and Teacher/Instructor Editions are not accepted.

This still leaves for the the hundreds of thousands of books that are accepted to be donated.

When you enter ISBNs you must drop the “-” marks in between the number sections, you also should make sure that it is a 10 or 13 digit ISBN. Many bookstores also place stickers over the barcode with either an ID number for a package or a sku number for their individual register system that is not the ISBN. These are all causes of the “incorrect ISBN” statement.

For the “not in our database” statement, means that book goes beyond the our knowledge of the book, either it is too old to register (sometimes considered out of print), it is by an obscure publisher that doesn’t have much of a presence, or it could be a custom text by a university (they sometimes modify books to their likings).

I hope this helps. Please comment if you have any other questions.

    Thanks
